Finding the right people to work with and network with is incredibly challenging and vitally important. Dysco was created out of an understanding and passion for bringing these connections to life. The app is a platform for entrepreneurs, freelancers, business minds and creative thinkers to connect and work together. Dysco is dedicated to bringing the talent and opportunities found in your city to life, by helping users discover the best talent - to learn from, to hire or to work with. Dysco co-founders and siblings Mishal and Khrisha Shah make launching a business and maintaining a smooth personal relationship seem so very easy. We caught up with them to talk about their bond and their business, as part of our Raksha Bandhan special.

Growing up, what was your relationship like with your older brother? Lots of bullying and fights or were you two ganging up against your older sister?
Definitely a bit of both. The three of us had wild imaginations and made up
tons of our own games to entertain ourselves. Mishal has never been bullied but has always done most of the bullying.

When you decided to start Dysco, why did you feel that Mishal would be the best partner to work with?
It was never a question, I couldn’t imagine doing it with anyone else. We have very different styles of working, and our skill sets complement each other perfectly – we balance each other out.

What is your strength?
Coming up with solutions for things. I like to see the potential in everything.

What is your biggest weakness?
I get stressed easily. I have to try not to take things too seriously.

What is Mishal’s strength?
His practicality and logic. He can calmly think things through.

What is his greatest weakness?
I guess he’s not really the imaginative type!

What do you two bring to the table professionally that is distinct?
I handle all things requiring creativity – content writing, marketing, social media and strategy. Mishal handles all the organisational and technical aspects – logistics, legal, HR, finance and administration.

What about at home? What roles do you take on?
We both play the same role at home actually: the pampered ones by our mum and older sister!

How has technology impacted the world we live in, in your eyes?
It’s transformed our lives irreversibly. On the downside, we spend much less time appreciating nature, food, and our relationships in an unfiltered way. But on the other hand, it’s amazing how accessible everything is – especially for those who traditionally might not be able to afford or access these things. Having so much information available has empowered many.

How has it helped or hindered the work you’re doing?
Dysco
is a digital platform; its entire foundation is technology. 15 years ago, Dysco couldn’t have even existed. We’re using technology to enable people to take professional relationships offline. We want people to actually discover the faces behind screens, so we’re using technology to bring back the human aspect of social media.

How interested are you in design and décor?
I love seeing beautiful homes and décor inspiration online. I’m a big fan of eclectic and bohemian décor, so plants, fairy lights, and vibrant accessories always capture my attention.

What is your favourite city to visit?
I couldn’t pick a single city. Anywhere with both the beach and the forest – Costa Rica, Thailand or Norway would be good bets.

Any particular architectural wonder that you are a fan of?
I recently visited and loved all of Gaudi’s works in Barcelona. Also, I really like Chinese-style houses and pagodas, which I had a chance to see in Hangzhou.

What’s your favourite way to relax?
Get away from the city.

How do you stay inspired?
Travel to new places and read about what interesting people are doing worldwide.

Growing up, what was your relationship like with your younger sister? Did you terrorise her or were you two ganging up against your older sister?
We had a great relationship. Khrisha would always hang out with my friends and me, play with our GI Joes, hang out with me and my cousin at the park, and basically do everything we did. I would bully her best friend and her – I’d tie them up and put them on top of the cupboard for hours on end (laughs).

When you decided to start Dysco, why did you feel that Khrisha would be the best partner to work with?
She came to me with the proposal so it wasn’t really a decision that I spearheaded. Regardless, I would back her blindly.

What is your strength?
Organisation and planning. Judgement of people/their characters and situations. Dealing with stressful situations.

What is your biggest weakness?
I’m terrible at anything creative, be it writing, thinking, conceptualising. I also have extreme stage fright and hate speaking in front of large groups/audiences.

What is Khrisha's strength?
Coming up with awesome ideas and concepts. Dysco
is almost entirely her baby.

What is her greatest weakness?
She’s always stressed and makes the most trivial problems seem gargantuan. Also, she has a very short temper.

What do you two bring to the table professionally that is distinct?
She handles everything creative and that requires a lot of innovating. I handle the practical, real life issues.

What about at home, what roles do you take on?
The role of kids…!

How has technology impacted the world we live in, in your eyes?
Technology has transformed everything. From the way we socialise to the way we shop, it has taken over every aspect of life.

How has it helped or hindered the work you’re doing?
It’s definitely helped us reach more people and places, that we would never have otherwise.

How interested are you in design and décor?
I love beautiful/cool surroundings, though I’m not very good at executing, due to my lack of creativity!

What is your favourite city to visit?
 London, Bangkok, Samui.

Any particular architectural wonder that you are a fan of?
Predjamska Castle, Slovenia.

What’s your favourite way to relax?
Laze on a couch and watch TV.

How do you stay inspired?
Travel. Hands down.
