If you’re the type of person who loves festivals and events (as are we!) you’re going to love our tips for decorating your home to reflect the many celebrations in our daily lives. With Valentine’s Day coming up, the romantics among us will enjoy these décor ideas – both DIY projects and otherwise – that will aptly set the mood for this special day.
Using a bunch of zip ties, preferably red but otherwise whatever colour you have lying around the house, to create a heart-shaped garland. First, close the zip tie so that the tail is on the inside, and then pinch the bottom to make the point. Loop the hearts together as you go. Voila! Easy and budget-friendly!
Stencilled Gift Wrappers
Cut out a heart shape from a piece of cardboard and dip it in any paint or glitter of your choice. Use it as a ‘stamp’ of sorts to decorate anything from letter paper to our favorite – gift bags or wrap. Don’t worry if the heart shape isn’t perfectly cut – a slightly irregular form will create a sense of vintage charm.
Take the theme into every room of your home! Place a small dish of heart-shaped soap by the bathroom sink. Not only will it look good, it will make whoever enters the space smile, with its touch of whimsy.
Baked with Love
This may seem obvious, but baking heart-shaped cookies during the Valentine’s Day holiday is both fun and decorative! Fill your kitchen with the scent of delicious baked goods and create festive countertops covered with trays of heart-shaped treats!
A really cute way to liven up someone special’s morning is by serving them tea that is love-inspired. To create a ‘heart’ tea bag, cut two hearts out of red chart paper, either using a heart-shaped crafter’s hole punch (available at specialty craft stores) or by using your own artistic prowess. Use a metallic gold or silver pen to write a short message on one of the hearts. Next, remove a tea bag and at the end of the string, affix the two hearts back to back, using either double-sided tape or a stapler. Steep the bag in hot water as usual, and serve.
Have a Happy Valentine’s Day!
