It’s the time of the year when people around the world celebrate a day dedicated to love. Yes, Valentine’s Day is here and for many of us, the pressure is on to make this one even better than the last. While some of us may have a special dinner or even a holiday booked (for the luckier ones out there!), keeping it simple yet intimate may work better for others. Here, we share a few ideas on how to set the mood for a perfect Valentine's Day - all in the comfort of your own home!
Begin by tidying up and clearing any clutter that may be taking over your home at the moment. Messiness doesn't help when you're trying to set a romantic, relaxed vibe. Next, think of the mood you want to set and decorate your home accordingly.
Usually, when one thinks of Valentine’s Day, the colour red is sure to feature. However, Valentine's Day colours can be a lot more sophisticated, if you think slightly out of the box. Deep reds, shades of pink, rich purple and warm browns also evoke the spirit of this day of love. Easily spruce up your space with deep red cushions on the sofa or a throw on the bed that can add a sensuous touch. When choosing a tablecloth for your dinner setting, opt for crisp white as it helps to enhance the other pieces and serve as a backdrop for the accessories on the table.

Go all out on the lighting and
by this, we don’t mean turn all the lights on! Nothing works better than candles when it comes to a romantic setting. Liberally use candles and tea lights all around your house to create a soft, dreamy feel. For a whimsical touch, place some fairy lights in a jar and use this as a centrepiece on your dinner table. Brownie points if you add scented candles!

Almost any celebration is incomplete without flowers and for Valentine’s Day, this element is key. Don’t hold back on the florals. Think beyond simply filling the space with floral arrangements or bouquets, which may sometimes turn out to be quite disjointed or jarring. Instead, fill a bowl with flowers and tea light candles, or scatter petals
across the dinner table or the bed to create a subtle yet inviting feel. You can also have a bunch of your (or your partner's) favourite flowers arranged beautifully as a centrepiece.

Don’t get yourself so busy planning the decor that you forget one of the most important elements - the food! You may wish to order in or surprise your partner by cooking an elaborate meal for them. Whatever you choose to do, keep it simple and fuss-free. Pizza and wine work just fine; what matters is that you and your partner enjoy the evening together.

With a clean home, decor in place and a bottle of bubbles waiting to be popped, you’re nearly ready to spend a beautiful evening with your loved one, but not before a couple of finishing touches are added. Plan a playlist in advance that works with the mood of the evening. If you are gifting presents and want to do something fun, plan a treasure hunt for your partner with gifts hidden around the house to make your evening a memorable one!
