Vastu Shastra is an ancient Indian science that focuses on where things should be. It looks at architecture and design as ways to help the right kinds of energy flow into your life. Everything we do is about energy, and our homes are no different. To attract positivity, you need to radiate good energy which you can work on in your home through the movement of objects and spaces. Here are tips on how you can incorporate the right kind of Vastu into your home.
Each home has its layout, but if you can control how your home is designed, it's helpful to keep the Vastu of each direction in mind. The north is for your money and valuables, while the centre should be kept open. Traditionally this would have been the courtyard. To the west, you will have the dining room or study area while the children's room should be in the south. Your master bedroom should lie in the south-west corner of your home while any area of worship, along with your door, should be in the north-east corner. Though it isn't possible to follow this correctly, you can try to place symbols of what each room represents, in its respective corner to garner the positive energy from it.
The way you walk into and out of your home is significant in Vastu as this is where all your energy will flow in and out of. You want to attract good energy and let the negativity exit your home. Your main door must be larger than all the other doors in your home, and there should be a doorstep there as well. Ideally, your main entrance should face north or east, which is why the north-east corner is the ideal spot for this. You can also place a picture of Lord Ganesha above your main door. There should be no water-centric element like a fountain, outside the main entrance, nor should you have a bathroom near it.
This is where we spend most of our time and is also the seat of so much energy. As mentioned, having a bedroom in the south-west corner of your home is ideal for health and prosperity. Your bed should be placed in such a way that your head faces west. There should be no reflective surface in front of the bed, such as a mirror or television, as this can result in problems in your relationship. Also, keep your room a more neutral shade like beige or brown as this will emanate positive energy. The bedroom should be the place you feel most calm, so find ways to introduce that energy into your room. You can use dim lighting, soft furnishings, aromatherapy, or music to create a soothing oasis in your bedroom.
If you are lucky enough to have space for a temple, meditation, or yoga room in your home, you will want to keep this in the north-east corner of the house. This room is one that should be considered as sacred and should be lit with candles. While you do pray or meditate, make sure to face east. Your living room should also be in the eastern direction as this invites good friends and relationships. Keep your room as clutter-free as possible, and keep all heavy furniture in the western corner of the room.
Overall, you can use Vastu as a guideline to design your home. However, do not let it dictate what you do as certain things cannot be changed in a home. The key is to focus on inviting in good energy through meditation, charity work, productive conversations, and a feeling of calm and peace at home.
